Why Your Columbus Wedding DJ Consultation Shouldn't Feel Like a Sales Pitch

What a wedding DJ consultation in Columbus should feel like: no pressure, no pitch, just honest information so you can decide on your own time.

Why Your Columbus Wedding DJ Consultation Shouldn't Feel Like a Sales Pitch

“I’m Not Going to Try to Sell You Today”

That’s the first thing I say on almost every initial call. Before we talk about your venue, before we talk about music, before anything else.

I say it because it’s true, and because I know what the last hour of your day has probably looked like. You’ve been on calls with other vendors. You’ve gotten pitches. Somebody has told you their package is “the one couples love most” and somebody else has tried to get you to commit before you hang up.

I’m not doing that. I’m not built that way, and honestly, it doesn’t work on people planning a wedding anyway.

You’ve Already Talked to Four Other DJs

By the time most couples get to us, they’ve already had a handful of these calls. Maybe three. Maybe five. Everyone sounds a little bit the same after a while. Big smiles, big promises, a sense that if you don’t decide right now, you’ll lose the date or the price or the “limited time” add on.

What you actually need at that point isn’t another pitch. You need someone to answer your questions straight, tell you what’s realistic for your reception, and then get out of your way so you can think.

That’s the whole philosophy behind how we run our consultation calls at LogieBear. We talk about your day. We talk about what you’re picturing for your first dance, your reception flow, your must play songs and your absolutely not songs. If something you’re imagining wouldn’t actually work well for your space or your guest count, I’ll tell you that too, even if it’s not what you want to hear in the moment.

Then I send over the deck with pricing and details, and I stop talking.

What a Pressure Free Wedding DJ Consultation Actually Looks Like

A lot of couples tell us, after the fact, that the call felt different than the others. Not because we did anything flashy. Because we didn’t do the thing they were bracing for.

No countdown timer on a discount. No “I’ve got another couple interested in your date” line. No follow up call the next morning asking if we’re ready to move forward.

Here’s roughly how it goes instead. We spend most of the call just talking about your wedding, not our services. What’s your venue like. What’s the vibe you want in the room. Are your parents the dance floor types or the sit and watch types. What’s non negotiable for you musically, and what do you genuinely not care about.

Somewhere in there I’ll mention pricing and what’s included, because you need that information to make a decision. But I’m not trying to close anything on that call. I’m trying to make sure you leave it with an accurate picture of what working with us would actually be like, whether that’s me behind the booth or our lead DJ George or one of our associate DJs, depending on your date and what fits your day best.

Why Nobody Books a $3,000 Vendor on the Spot

I think about this a lot. Your wedding DJ is probably one of the five or six biggest line items in your whole budget. Nobody, and I mean nobody, makes a good decision on a purchase that size under pressure. Not for a car, not for a house, not for a wedding vendor.

I’ve watched this play out from the booth more times than I can count, at the reception, not the sales call. The couples who booked us because they felt rushed or because a discount was about to expire almost always had a rockier planning process. More last minute changes. More uncertainty about whether they picked right. The couples who took their time, sat with the information, and came back to us because it genuinely fit, those are the weddings where everything just flows.

So when I tell a couple not to decide on the call, I mean it. Go home. Talk about it over dinner. Compare it to the other quotes sitting in your inbox. Sleep on it for a week if you need to.

What Happens After the Call

Most couples sit on the deck for anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks. Some come back with more questions, which I always want, because a question I can answer honestly is worth way more than a hesitation you never voice. Some come back ready to book. Some decide we’re not the right fit, and that’s fine too. I’d rather you book the DJ who’s actually right for your day than book us because I was good at closing a call.

A few do come back and say the no pressure thing is exactly why they picked us over a vendor who pushed harder. I don’t say all this to brag about a sales technique. I say it because it tells you something real about how a company treats you before you’ve signed anything, which usually tells you a lot about how they’ll treat you on the actual wedding day.

What This Means for You, Whoever You End Up Booking

If you’re out there right now collecting quotes and sitting through calls, here’s my honest advice. Pay attention to how a vendor handles the word “I need to think about it.” If they get pushy, short, or start adding urgency that wasn’t there two minutes ago, that’s information. If they say “take your time” and actually mean it, that’s information too.

You can read more about how we approach pricing and packages on our investment page, see the kind of weddings we work on over at our weddings page, or get to know the team you’d actually be working with on meet the team.

When you’re ready, no rush at all, you can reach out through the contact form and we’ll set up a time to talk it through. No pitch, I promise.
